Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday welcomed Angolan President Joao Manuel Goncalves Lourenco at Hyderabad House in New Delhi, marking a significant moment in India-Angola diplomatic relations. The two leaders held comprehensive bilateral discussions aimed at deepening cooperation between the two nations.

Also present during the meeting were External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) shared the update on social media, with spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal posting on X: “Fostering India-Angola special relationship. PM @narendramodi warmly received President Mr. Joao Manuel Goncalves Lourenco of Angola at Hyderabad House ahead of their bilateral talks.”

Earlier in the day, President Lourenco was accorded a ceremonial welcome at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan, where he received a 21-gun salute and a Guard of Honour. He was warmly received by President Droupadi Murmu, PM Modi, EAM Jaishankar, and other dignitaries.

President Lourenco also paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat, laying a wreath at the memorial and signing the visitors’ book as a gesture of respect.

EAM Jaishankar had earlier met with President Lourenco, highlighting the importance of the visit and expressing confidence that the discussions with PM Modi would open new avenues for India-Angola and broader India-Africa cooperation. “Value his warm sentiments for India and guidance for taking forward our partnership,” Jaishankar posted on X.

President Lourenco’s state visit, accompanied by a high-level delegation, underlines Angola’s growing engagement with India and reflects the broader commitment of both nations to strengthening ties across economic, political, and strategic domains.
